Our faith can be summarised in two verses from the Bible:

John 3:16, "For God so loved the world that He gave his only Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life."

1 Timothy 2:5-6 "For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself a ransom for all."

What we believe

About the Scriptures:
  • The Scriptures are fully inspired by God.
  • The Scriptures not only contain but are themselves the complete word of God without error and in all things the Scripture is the final Authority.
  • The New Testament is a reliable testimony to the character and authorship of the Old Testament.
  • The Scriptures can only be truly and spiritually understood as a whole through the teaching of the Holy Spirit.

About God:
  • God is one and that the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit are divinely equal.
  • God is Supreme and Sovereign in Creation, Providence and Redemption.

About Jesus:
  • The Lord Jesus Christ is truly and properly divine and that He was born of a virgin.
  • That even though He is truly God He is really and perfectly human.
  • That His teaching has power and authority, and that everything He said was perfectly correct and had no fault.
  • That by suffering and dying as a substitute for the sinners of the world He secured atonement for us.
  • That He rose from the dead in His body and went up into Heaven.
  • That He is presently interceding for us, His people, at the right hand of the Father.

About the Holy Spirit:
  • That the work of the Holy Spirit is required in regeneration, conversion and sanctification and also in ministry and worship

About Man:
  • The total wickedness and sinfulness of human nature as a result of the fall, and the total need for regeneration.
  • The sinner is justified only by faith in our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

About the Church:
  • In the universal Church and that Christ is the head of His body the Church which includes all the redeemed, i.e. the saved, those called by God through the Gospel, born of the Spirit and justified by faith.
  • In the local church, which includes believers who are the expression of the universal church and in the fellowship between such churches, demonstrating the unity of the body of Christ

About Church Ordinances:
  • In the Ordinances of Baptism and the Lord's Supper as instituted by our Lord Jesus Christ.
  • The Ordinance of Baptism will be administered by immersion and only to those who are believers in the Lord Jesus Christ.
  • Communion at the Lord's Table shall be open to all who sincerely love the Lord Jesus Christ as their Saviour and Lord.
Please note: We do not believe that Baptism in any way results in regenerating grace, and we do not believe that the Lord's Supper is in any way a sacrifice for sin, or involves any change in the substance of the bread and wine.

About Future Things:
  • In the personal return of the Lord Jesus Christ in glory
  • In the resurrection of the body; the judgement of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ with the eternal blessedness of the righteous and the eternal punishment of the wicked.

Drumchapel Baptist Church was started by members of Hillhead Baptist Church in 1961. The church was then added to the Baptist Union in 1962. Before the church was built the following premises were used to worship:

The first Deacons' Meeting was held on the 8th June 1964, with the church anniversary being the 22nd of November. The Foundation Stone was laid in March 1965.
The official dedication of the church was on the 11th June 1966, which also served as the induction of Edwin Gunn. Our first Baptismal Service was 23rd October 1966, with 2 current members being baptised: George & Jenny Thomson.
